Everything you need to know...
How to Measure for Your Kilt
To ensure the perfect fit, follow these steps to measure yourself for a kilt:
- Waist Measurement: Measure around your natural waistline, typically just above your navel or at the narrowest part of your torso. This is where the kilt will sit.
- Hip Measurement: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, typically the widest part of your bottom. Make sure the measuring tape is level all the way around as you do this.
- Length: While wearing shoes, measure from your natural waistline down to the middle of your kneecap. This determines the proper length of your kilt.
For best results, use a flexible tape measure and stand naturally. If you're between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for comfort.
Remember, a well-fitted kilt should sit at your natural waist and fall to the middle of your kneecap. If you have any questions about sizing, don't hesitate to contact us.
In the measurement options, you can pick:
- "I'll decide later" - this lets us take your order into our system, but we will await measurements before we start. You may pick this option if you haven't measured at the time of ordering.
- "I need help to decide" - this option tells us you need help with the measurements, so when we receive your order, we'll get in contact with you to discuss measuring and guide you through the process.
Choosing Your Tartan
For Highland dancing, many dancers prefer dress tartans with white backgrounds. These tartans are lighter and brighter, helping dancers stand out on stage. The white base makes the colours pop, especially under stage lights, giving a fresh and vibrant look that complements the movement of the dance.
Dress tartans are also popular because they have a traditional yet stylish appearance, balancing heritage with stage presence. When choosing a tartan, dancers often look for patterns that not only highlight their movements but also suit their personal style and make them feel confident.
